    Presentation

In this special issue, we invite readers to explore a broad overview of the opportunities and challenges facing the management, production and dissemination of scientific knowledge in the contemporary era. In an increasingly interconnected and digitized world, science is at a unique moment of transformation and evolution.

The management of scientific knowledge faces multiple significant challenges, ranging from ethical issues, to making decisions about sharing, aspects of movements to open up scientific practice and intellectual property, among others.  This situation highlights the need to develop robust and innovative strategies for generating, storing, analysing and sharing scientific knowledge.

In the context of scientific production, we are seeing a growing trend towards transnational interdisciplinary collaboration, resulting in significant advances in all areas of knowledge. These collaborations, however, require an efficient communication infrastructure and integration mechanisms between areas of knowledge and different institutions. There are challenges in operationalizing collaborative and transdisciplinary scientific work, since it is necessary to consider the specificities of the different areas of knowledge and their processes for generating knowledge.

The dissemination of scientific knowledge also faces unique challenges in the digital age. While the internet and digital platforms offer unprecedented means for the rapid dissemination of information, they are also conducive to the spread of misinformation. This highlights the importance of developing effective strategies to guarantee the quality and veracity of scientific information made available to the public. It is also necessary to think about training scientific actors to disseminate their research to the lay public, using the current informal communication channels available.

Along the same lines, the complexity of the apparatus necessary for scientific research is confronted by Artificial Intelligence (AI) which, in the face of its widespread use, reveals new opportunities and intriguing challenges, providing automated tasks such as writing, translation, content comparison, among others. Questions arise about the use of AI in scientific work and current regulations on ethics and academic integrity do not always take into account the new formats of automation in the process of generating information. This issue is dedicated to presenting original articles, review articles, and case studies that address these fundamental questions. We encourage readers to participate in this discussion to better understand the current dynamics of the scientific world and the future directions of this evolving field.

Papers should preferably be related to one or more of the following themes:

    Thematic lines:

    1. Communication and science divulgation: this theme explores how science is communicated and understood in an age of rapid information and social media. We seek articles that address innovative strategies and challenges in disseminating scientific knowledge among peers and diverse audiences.

    2. Open Science: The idea is to include articles that address the openness of the scientific endeavor, focusing on transparency and open access as redefining elements of the scientific endeavor. We welcome contributions that discuss the implications, benefits and challenges associated with Open Science, including issues of privacy, data security and sustainability.

    3. Academic Integrity: Academic integrity is fundamental to science, especially when thinking about formative practices that discourage scientific misconduct. We invite authors to submit articles that explore principles, norms and practices orientated towards ethics and academic integrity in research.

    4. Evaluation of Science: This theme addresses the methodologies and criteria used to evaluate scientific research. We are looking for studies that include critical analyses of current practices, which are primarily quantitative with a focus on scientific production, and challenges in drawing up new proposals for creative evaluation systems that are fairer and more effective, with qualitative approaches that take into account the various formats of scientific endeavor.

    5. Artificial Intelligence in Science: AI is revolutionizing practices in the context of scientific research. We expect submissions that examine the use of AI in science, its implications, innovative applications and the ethical and practical challenges involved.
