Objective. This study investigated the need for the implementation of incorporating a Data Management Plan within the life cycle of academic research data at the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas in El Salvador. The objective of the research was to analyze how the adoption of this data management practice benefits the accessibility, discovery, and reuse of university research.
Method. For this purpose, a qualitative case study methodology was used, which included participant observation of researchers and administrative personnel from the different 2024 research groups, in addition to an analysis of documentation and BiblioGuides. Benchmarking of comparative processes of 20 DMP templates to subtract the best structure and practices of various research institutions.
Results. The results showed a significant improvement in the management of research data and a positive perception on the part of the users to improve the processing and organization of their project data.
Conclusions. The implementation of the instrument (DMP) contributes to greater accessibility, reuse and curation of scientific data by researchers, data managers and librarians who collaborate in the monitoring of research projects and provides recommendations for other institutions interested in adopting similar new data management practices.
