Objectives. Identify and analyze academic scientific production in Spain, covering dissertations and theses with topics that approach the relationship between archives, Archival Science and digital technology. Research surveys conducted at the postgraduate level, including dissertations and theses.
Methods. The research is exploratory, descriptive and analytical in nature. The study consisted of a quantitative and qualitative analysis of dissertations and theses published between 2001 and 2018, available in the repositories of universities in Spain, then organized by analysis categories.
Results. The TFMs identified in the analysis period fall into only two categories: mutual influences between archives, Archival Science and digital technology; and theoretical and practical challenges. The theses identified are divided into three categories of analysis: relationships between archives, Archival Science and digital technology, mutual influences between archives; Archival Science and digital technology; and theoretical and practical challenges. It is worth noting the large number of theses in the second mentioned category, compared to the other two. Although some more theoretical works are observed, nevertheless it is curious that there is no case study.
Conclusions. There are few studies on the theoretical and methodological changes in the discipline or on professional challenges. However, the growing and irreversible application of information and communication technologies in the administration and in the archives is evident, which points to the need to fill gaps in Spanish academic archival production.
