Topics of change in the RDA: perception of catalogers at the Federal University of Minas Gerais

Objective. Present the main perceptions of UFMG library catalogers regarding these changes in rules and point out the strengths and weaknesses of these perceptions.Method. It characterizes as applied, of investigation of scientific approach in the process of inductive discovery, of exploratory and descriptive objectives and aspects of mixed methods, that combines or associates the qualitative and quantitative forms. The semi-structured interview was used as an instrument for data collection and the content analysis approach was used for data analysis.
Results. They point to the catalogers' lack of familiarity regarding the RDA changes on the perception of essential elements topics for description, RDA transcription verus AACR2, terminologies and abbreviations, replacement of MARC 260 fields by field 264, relationship labels and replacement of the DGM.
Conclusions. The catalogers of the libraries of the UFMG library system on the RDA standard, effectively, demonstrated that they are still not well aware of these changes in the RDA rules, requiring knowledge of the rules and the changes proposed by them, in addition to pointing to the need of continuous learning and study of the standard, and the practical demonstration of its operation.
