Abstract

Objective. To discuss the practices that a public library can develop in order to incorporate the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) and, specifically, to present studies and research that address the DEIA principles. Method. Bibliographic, qualitative and descriptive research, with no time limits, using the integrative bibliographic review to analyze the data. Results. There are few scientific papers related to the principles analyzed and a lack of these principles associated with public libraries, although the link between them is undeniable. Conclusion. The public library, by incorporating inclusive practices, becomes a welcoming space that preserves and shares reliable information, respecting human diversity as a means to contribute to a more equitable and just society.

Rosane Suely Álvares Lunardelli, Universidade Estadual de Londrina

Graduated in Library Science, with a Master’s and Ph.D. in Language Studies from the State University of Londrina (UEL). Postdoctoral degree in Information Science from the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). Associate Professor in the Department of Information Science at UEL. Leader and Researcher of the Research Group: ‘Information Science and Literature in the Well-being and Quality of Life of the Brazilian Population.’ She teaches in undergraduate and specialization programs in Archival Science and Library Science, as well as in the Master’s and Doctoral programs in Information Science. Her primary areas of focus include: Organization/Representation of Information and Knowledge; Documentary Reading, Documentary Analysis/Information Analysis; Reading Promotion; Verbal and Nonverbal Languages; Textual Linguistics; Archives Management; and Cordel Literature. She is the Deputy Director of the Center for Education, Communication, and the Arts (CECA).

Sandra Regina Moitinho Lage, Universidade Estadual de Londrina

Graduated in Business Administration and holds a Master’s, Ph.D., and postdoctoral degree in Information Science from the State University of Londrina. Deputy leader and researcher of the research group “Information Science and Literature in the Well-being and Quality of Life of the Brazilian Population.” Her research focuses primarily on the following topics: Organization/Representation of Information; Thematic Representation of Information; Documentary Analysis; Information Analysis; Cordel Literature.

Ana Claudia Constantino, Universidade Estadual de Londrina

Graduated in Performing Arts and Library Science from the State University of Londrina (UEL). Master’s degree (with a scholarship) in the Graduate Program in Information Science at the State University of Londrina (UEL). Researcher for the research project “Information Science and Literature in the Well-being and Quality of Life of the Brazilian Population.” Collaborator on the research project “Reading, School Libraries, and Pedagogical Mediation.” Her primary areas of focus include: Information and Knowledge Sharing; Information and Knowledge Organization; Childhood; Oral Mediation of Literature; School and Public Libraries.
