RDA: recommendations for implementation in Brazil

Abstract

Objective. The present study aims to explore ways of implementing, managing and training the new RDA standard reported around the world, which can be used by Brazilian libraries.

Method. Reports in scientific publications and presentations at events were used to obtain a secure basis for analyzing the implementation processes of the new standard.

Results. The exploratory research made it possible to identify systems, editors and technological possibilities that can facilitate the process of implementing the RDA standard in Brazilian libraries, in addition to revealing the main barriers and difficulties encountered by libraries during the process of implementing the RDA standard. Through this review, it was possible to make a recommendation for implementing the new standard in the country.

Conclusions. Based on the results obtained, it is possible to conclude that implementing the RDA standard in Brazilian libraries requires a comprehensive understanding of its instructions, structures and applications.

Mestrado em Gestão e Organização do Conhecimento pela UFMG (2023). Graduação em Biblioteconomia pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2018). Bolsista de Iniciação Científica do PRONOTURNO do curso de Biblioteconomia da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Tem experiência na área de Ciência da Informação, com ênfase em Biblioteconomia, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: profissional bibliotecário, taxonomia, eventos, internet, ciência da informação e catalogação.

Professora Titular da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Sua formação é toda em sua área de formação primária: bacharel em Biblioteconomia pela PUC de Campinas, mestrado em Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas em 1998 e o doutorado em Ciência da Informação pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais em 2005. Especialização em Análise de Sistemas pela Faculdade "Carlos Pasquale" de São Paulo. Pesquisadora participante dos Grupos de Pesquisa: MHTX e RECRI. Membro do Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisas em Catalogação (GEPCAT). Atua na área de Ciência da Informação, com ênfase em Biblioteconomia, na área de Organização da Informação - Catalogação, Classificação do conhecimento e organização da informação na web. Docente do Programa de Pós-graduação em Gestão e Organização do Conhecimento (PPGGOC) da Escola de Ciência da Informação da UFMG, orienta dissertações e teses na área de: Catalogação: conceitos, história e epistemologia, Catalogação em bibliotecas e repositórios digitais, Instrumentos de representação descritiva, Modelagem conceitual FRBR, FRAD e FRSAD, FRBR/LRM, FRBRoo, Padrões de metadados para representação descritiva, Processos e produtos de representação descritiva e Representação Descritiva e Modelagem de Dados , padrões de metadados para catalogação.
